Music Album Reviews

Danny Brown: XXX

Rating: 7 / 10

Danny flowing between serious and joke lines really gives this a sporadic vibe.

The heavy introspection lines really hit with clarity when Danny gets serious.

The production feels a little immature at times. (That being said, it fits with Danny's vocals in that aspect)

Snooper: Super Snooper

Rating: 7/10

Short, but packs a beatiful punch. Feels like a modern version of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Tame Impala: Currents

Rating: 7/10

The two part songs are a vibe.

Synths are welcome and give this a much more Electric EDM ROCK vibe than previous Tame Impala records.

Kevin Parker's vocal range isn't very dynamic across this album.

Tash Sultana: Terra Firma

Rating: 6.5/10

Tash's big songs leave me unfulfilled.

Greed is the closest Tash got to the full potential a song had in my opinion. The rest really feel a little sub-par.

One longer song in the back half of the album has a really tasty 2nd half to it.

LoveStroke - Encephal Wealth EP

Rating: 5/10

In this sophomore EP from LoveStroke, you get a sense of growth in LoveStroke's production capabilities.

This experimental EP feels unfinished an demo-like. It leaves more to be wanted. Did I mention it gets sad at times?

LoveStroke also produced the full EP music video.

Max Baker's Mixing sounds great on this project.

JPEGMAFIA - Veteran

Rating: 7/10

This album is one of the more impressive experimental productions in recent years. JPEG is a unique producer and a leader in the modern era.

Ol' Dirty Bastard: Return To The 36 Chambers

Rating: 7.3 / 10

ODB was one of the most recognizable voices in rap.

Jack White: Fear Of The Dawn

Rating: 6.9 / 10

This album made me feel like a kid again.

I was filled with excitement about modern music.

Red Hot Chili Peppers: The Getaway

Rating: 7/10

The electric production on this project gives a glimpse of what the Chilis sound like when they break out of their shell and more into the realm of Danger Mouse.

MadVillain: Mad Villainy

Rating: 6.7 / 10

Beautiful production from Madlib and MF DOOM.

MF DOOM: Operation Doomsday

Rating: 6.3 / 10

MF DOOM BRINGS OLD SCHOOL SAMPLES TO A NEW TIME.

The instrumentals can get a little boring at times.

Daft Punk: Random Access Memories

Rating: 8.3 / 10

Some of the best Synth Pop of the 2010's.

Rage Against The Machine: The Battle of Los Angeles

Rating: 7. 9 / 10

Raw hard rock from one of the hardest political funk rock / rap bands of the early 2000's.

Nirvana: In Utero

Rating: 9.17 / 10

The peak of Nirvana's sound.

Steve Albini's production helps Nirvana get raw in ways they couldn't achieve with Nevermind.

This album is much less polished sounding than Butch Vig's production.

Jimi Hendrix: Are You Experienced?

Rating: 9.2 / 10

The most inspirational guitar player since 1960 is still a major inspiration in the modern culture.

Notorious B.I.G.: Ready to Die

Rating: 8.97 / 10

With some of the most iconic flows in hip hop, this concept album caps off Biggie's, short, but lit career.

Pink Floyd: Animals

Rating: 8.3 / 10

The call back break downs build upon each other very well through the album.

Flamingosis: A Groovy Thing

Rating: 6.9 / 10

Beautiful production all around, but we are left without a super earworm hit song.

The Beatles: Abbey Road

Rating: 10 / 10

Beautiful album start to finish.

This record spawned doom metal. It had absurd songs about murder and sappy love.

Every Project here is worth listening to.
